HISTORY

Sørlandet was purpose-built as a training ship, and has been used for sail training since her launch in 1927. Donated to the town of Kristiansand in 1977, this full-rigger has been operated since then as a commercial enterprise by the Stiftelsen Fullriggeren Sørlandet, a non-profit foundation. Operated as a working sailing ship, she offers young people and the young-at-heart the unique opportunity to ply the ocean waves on one of the great full-riggers.

Sørlandet won the regatta between Riga and Travemünde in 2003 and will therefore be the defending champion when the starting signal sounds for the regatta leg between Stavanger and Cuxhaven in 2004.
